SAN FRANCISCO -- The industry trend toward consolidation continues. Last year Alias took in Kaydara. Last month Autodesk, which already had a thriving 3D CG product line acquired from Kinetix (the developer of 3DS Max) and had folded it together with Discreet in 1999, announced its purchase of Alias for $182 million.
The deal will not be finalized until early spring, but both companies are now preparing for Alias (www.alias.com) to join the Autodesk (www.autodesk.com) fold.
Alias will continue to operate out of Toronto and remain discrete from Discreet in Montreal and Autodesk in San Francisco. Autodesk's 3DS Max resides solely on Windows while Alias's ...
