After many years of planning, testing, consulting and fundraising, the University of Delaware's new research vessel, the Hugh R. Sharp, is finally a reality.
The $18 million vessel was recently completed after nearly a year of construction at Dakota Creek Industries in Anacortes, Wash. In December, the 146'X32' Sharp was scheduled to be floated onto a Dockwise transporter in Vancouver, B.C., and shipped to Port Everglades, Fla. A crew from Delaware will assume command there and sail north to the university's Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes at the entrance to Delaware Bay.
