RSPCA animal centres up and down the country are bracing themselves this winter for the seasonal crop of abandoned pets picked up during this time of year by inspectors and animal collection officers.
Last year, between 23 December 2004 and 6 January 2005, the RSPCA investigated 530 complaints of animals being abandoned.
