LUNCHTIME in Sweden the week before Christmas, and I have just been served a very dubious seasonal snack. 'Do you think any other English people will be eating Rudolph?' my companion asked doubtfully as the platter appeared.
I had to admit I couldn't see reindeer meat taking off at Waitrose, but surely with so much sentimentality over Christmas, it was refreshing to take a walk on the wild side.
Eating reindeer might sound more like something from swashbuckling Norse legend than a polite, middleclass holiday, but I'll try anything once.
