Scientists have long noted a high incidence of sleep problems in people who abuse drugs. Often, sleep problems were attributed to either the drug use itself or as a withdrawal symptom from a drug. However, a recent study at the University of Michigan suggests that sleep problems may be a more causal factor in drug addiction than scientists have previously realized.
Headed by Maria M. Wong, the 10 year study followed 257 boys from the time they were 3 years old until they were 14 years old. The researchers used the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) to interview parents about their child's behavior, sleep habits, attention span, anxiety, depression, and aggression. ...
