Dec. 23--Sgt. Abraham Tokier is one of Palm Springs' 90 officers.
One expert says it may need more.
The city's violent-crime -- murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault -- and motor-vehicle-theft rates for 2004 are significantly higher than those of other popular California tourist destinations, including cities that are much larger than the desert town of about 45,000 residents.
