AS A FORMER fundamentalist myself, I felt as though I had been kicked in the face by the opening sentence of Jason Byassee's review of Brian Flemming's film The God Who Wasn't There: A Film Beyond Belief ("Passionate disbelief," Sept. 6). Byassee is certainly entitled to his opinion of Flemming, but to say that "he is that most dangerous of religious creatures: the former fundamentalist" is bad journalism.
A great many very good and faithful Christians are former fundamentalists, who are certainly not dangerous in the sense in which Byassee implies. In fact, former fundamentalists may make up a large portion of constructive Christian leaders today.
