Dec. 24--Forget what the calendar says. June 21 is not the longest day of the year. At least, not for kids. When you're waiting for Santa Claus to make his magical appearance, Christmas Eve is the lo-o-o-ongest day, a day when minutes seem like hours. But there's more to Christmas Eve than just waiting for the hours to pass until Christmas morning. The day has its own traditions. In some parts of the world, people believe that farm animals are given the power of speech at the moment Christmas Eve becomes Christmas morning.
Local traditions aren't quite that dramatic. But ...
