A RECORD number of stores will open today in a cut-throat battle for customers.
Prices have been slashed by up to 80per cent in the winter sales as retailers try to make up for a disappointing Christmas.
It means Boxing Day will, more than ever before, be a normal trading day for most High Street shops.
At least six out of ten stores will be open, many for the first time on a festive holiday. In London the figure will be eight out of ten. Experts predict that three million people will flock to the shops today at the start of what could be a [pounds sterling]5billion sales spree.
