HISTORY echoed between the tilting headstones of the cemetery, as the timeless wind swept in from the river, brushing rain from the low clouds.
And you could see a vivid flush of that history in the noble bearing of the Lord Mayor, in his crimson robes and tricorn hat, as he squelched across the grass away from the grave of the giant, whose feet once thundered the ground in these parts.
He pauses beneath a beech tree on the otherside of the road.
Lord Mayor Mal Sutton is a handsome figure of a man himself, but he is dwarfed by the giant, whose likeness has been carved into the trunk of this tree.
