Over the last 10 years, numerous clinical trials have provided consistent and strong evidence that adequate control of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), blood pressure (BP), and LDL-cholesterol (LDL) levels significantly reduces major macrovascular complications (Pyorala et al. 1997; Hansson et al. 1998), microvascular complications (U.K. Prospective Diabetes Study [UKPDS] Group 1998), and mortality in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
