Montgomery is staring at the effects suburban growth will have on a sense of community that has developed slowly, over generations.
There is no doubt the houses and commuters will come - just look at Lonsdale, to the east and closer to Interstate Hwy. 35. Driving through, you have to shake your head at how quickly Lonsdale is growing.
This month, Montgomery took a big step toward preserving its heart and soul - a step that will stand it in good stead as the inevitable reshapes farm fields and woods.
I was privileged to visit on Dec. 17, when the city dedicated its new library.
