Dec. 30--In the days leading up to Christmas, children and parents gathered around the Christmas tree. Now, as the branches brown on their ends, as pine needles make a snowflake pattern covering the carpet, and you can't stop the dog from drinking the water anymore, it's time to say good-bye to that most splendid of symbols. And don't forget the wrapping paper, tissue paper, empty boxes, holiday foods and envelopes that carried well-wishes from far away places.
