Dec. 30--More than ever, Americans are proving Cole Porter wrong. They do get a kick from Champagne, whether it be a $150 bottle of Dom Perignon or a $6.99 Spanish sparkling Cava.
"The increase is across the board," said Rich Gotsch, manager of the Wine Merchant in Clayton.
Gretchen Morfogen, specialty team leader at Whole Foods Market in Brentwood, agreed: "Everything is selling."
Sparkling wine sales will peak on Saturday, but interest in bubbly is picking up year round.
"Overall, people think of sparkling wine as a celebratory wine, but we're starting to see that change," said Gotsch.
