The Boeing Co. won a $49.2 million contract from the Air Force to upgrade communications aboard Saudi Arabia's fleet of five E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System aircraft. The contract, awarded under a foreign military sales agreement, will add Link 16, a digital data system that allows military aircraft, ships and ground units to exchange tactical pictures in near real time, Chicago-based Boeing said in an e-mailed statement Thursday. The installation on the first of the Saudi AWACS aircraft is scheduled to begin in December in Seattle.
