Dear Carol: I have a question about the "Garden Q & A" column that was published Dec. 17 on amaryllis. I thought the thinking had changed in the past five years or so about letting the leaves die off and forcing it to grow new ones.
I thought I'd read that one should keep the plant growing instead. I always used to put them in a closet to dry out and die off, then bring them out when they started to regrow. Is that the recommended procedure again? Please clarify. - L.S., Fayetteville
