Ask an American judge or doctor what he (or she) knows about the medical beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses. The response will probably be that Witnesses devoutly refuse to accept blood transfusions for either themselves or their children, even to save a life. Since 1945, the Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses ("Society" or "Watchtower") has strongly contended that accepting whole blood or whole blood cell transfusions violates the Bible's commandments in Genes 9:3-6, Leviticus 17: 13, 14, and Acts 15:22-29 to "abstain from blood."
