Jan. 3--SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Northeast Conference commissioner John Iamarino was named as the Southern Conference's next commissioner on Monday.
Iamarino, who has held the NEC's top post for nine years, officially steps on board with the Southern Conference on Jan. 30. His hiring fills the void created by Danny Morrison, a Williams High School graduate, who left the Southern Conference in June to become athletics director at Texas Christian.
Geoff Cabe, part of the conference staff since 1988 and the league office's most senior member, had worked as the Southern Conference's interim commissioner.
