China International Trust & Investment Corporation (CITIC) was due to sign on 3 December the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the South Aluminium Corporation (Salco) smelter at Bandar Abbas. Salco says it is also close to concluding a study on an alumina plant next to the smelter, for which it will issue a tender early in 2006 (MEED 14:10:05).
CITIC's contract will come into effect one month after signing. Salco officials say the contract will have a duration of 41 months and is worth $935 million. The smelter will have capacity of 275,000 tonnes a year (t/y) of aluminium, with two further phases of up to 315,000 t/y each under ...
