The ancient Romans had it easy. This New Year's resolution idea was all theirs, according to the Farmers' Almanac, and they considered it nothing more than a fine time to pay off debts and return borrowed plows and such.
No sweat compared to the modern world's No. 1 New Year's resolution: getting that holiday-plumped body back into shape. Six weeks of eat, drink and be merry have left the average American packing nearly 10 extra pounds.
