According to public reports, the capacity of isoprene in the world was 855 000 t/a in 2004. Russia, the United States and Japan are major producers and consumers of isoprene and their consumption accounts for 93.4% of the world total.

The consumption of isoprene in the world was 717 000 tons in 2004. More than 95% of the total is used in the production of isoprene rubber, styrene-isoprenestyrene block copolymer (SIS) and butyl rubber. The

balance is used in the production of fine chemicals such as vitamins, pesticides, pharmaceuticals and flavors.
