I was standing one evening on the steps of LM Montgomery's pretty house looking for a doorbell. I couldn't find it and knocked three times on the door. It was opened by a tall dark young man who admitted that Mrs. Macdonald lived there and invited me in. While I was still wondering if he was Gilbert or his ghost, a pleasant, short elderly lady stepped down the stairs in the hall. She shook my hand and welcomed me. I introduced myself and repeated my wish to interview her.
