CORRECTION: The most significant decline in mortality rates at Wisconsin hospitals from 2001 to 2004 was in carotid endarterectomy, a surgery to remove plaque from the carotid artery in the neck. The number of deaths per 100 discharges dropped from 1.2 to 0.5, a decline of 58 percent. The information was incorrect in a story on Page 1 of Thursday's Local section.
