CHICAGO _ It may have been Missouri that passed new abortion restrictions last fall, but the law was clearly aimed at Illinois.
The legislation, which took effect in September, allowed suits against those who "cause, aid or assist" Missouri minors in obtaining abortions without parental consent. The law applies to abortions anywhere _ including Illinois, which requires no such consent.
Four months later, the law continues to impose hardships and headaches at the Hope Clinic for Women in Granite City, Ill., say administrators. The clinic, just across the Mississippi River from the St. Louis arch, is one of the busiest ...
