Ariel Sharon's doctors reported that the surgery they performed on him was on the right side of his brain. Doctors unrelated to the case have said since that this indicates the possibility of particularly extensive brain damage.
The right side of the brain is termed the right "hemisphere" by psychologists. This half of the brain controls the left side of the body as well as the expression of emotion, perception of spatial relations and the interpretation of nonverbal information.
