DAVID TRILLANES sails the seven seas, but he's fixated on sound waves. Serving aboard a supertanker anchored in the Caribbean, he's pondering a tech conundrum waiting back home.
Trillanes is an A/V buff--his weakness is concert DVDs and blues CDs--and a sweet home theater setup welcomes him on dry land: a Yamaha Dolby Digital/DTS receiver and DVD player, hooked to Bose 5.1 speakers. His PC sits adjacent, and he's eyeing a deluxe sound card, the $199 Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. His grand plan: Run its output into the receiver and the Bose speaker set, and jettison his PC speakers. "Is it practical to buy this card for this purpose?" he asks.
