SCHOOL OF THE WEEK: Fresh ideas spark in Salazar?s sunny new space.

Jan. 9--There is not much that isn't new at Salazar Elementary. The school was entirely rebuilt two years ago, replacing a building that opened in 1953. The new building is brightly painted. Its floor consists of colored tile, and at the end of each of its wings, sunlight from skylights floods large, open spaces. The school's new library also is a large, open space, but tucked in a corner, behind a wall, is a small reading area. Along with a new gymnasium, cafeteria, computer lab and playground equipment, officials also have new conference rooms and plenty of office space.
