Execs see tough half. (textile executives predict difficult last six months of 1993) (Textile Report)

Textile executives do not expect business to improve significantly in the second half of 1993. The industry has been plagued by increasing imports, a slow domestic economy and unease surrounding the potential General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade and the North American Free Trade Agreement. Against this backdrop, however, cotton textiles, novelty fabrics and denim are growing categories. Rayon challis sales performed badly in Apr and May 1993, but some converters predict a turnaround at the end of summer 1993.
