PRETEEN CHILDREN Porridge or muesli: for breakfast, gives them a whole morning of slow-release energy.

Dried fruit, nuts and sunflower seeds: provide instant healthy energy at any time of the day.

TEENS Dates: to satisfy their sweet tooth.

They'll supply badly needed iron too, and they're high in potassium.

Eggs: the original low-calorie convenience food - a good source of protein for growing bodies, supplying 6g a time.

Oranges: if they eat a whole fresh orange at the start of a meal, that will help them absorb more iron, calcium and other useful minerals from food.
