Jan. 11--Step up and stick in a dollar. Press a button, and in a few seconds, a 16-pound bag of ice falls out.

It's called the Ice House, a new automated ice vending machine invented by two Georgia farmers that has quickly grown into a multimillion-dollar business.

More than 241 of these 200-square-foot ice makers have been placed across the country and in the Bahamas. Three such machines have been installed in the Augusta area in the past year.

Brad Sandbach, president of convenience store chain The Pumping Station, purchased two Ice House machines last summer for his stores on Peach Orchard and Lewiston roads.
