Beijing police to start emergency SMS service in second half of 2006
Shanghai. January 10. INTERFAX-CHINA - The Beijing police will start SMS (short messaging service) based emergency services in the second half of this year, which were designed to allow deaf and mute citizens to report crime and fire emergencies and traffic accidents to police, the Beijing Bureau of Public Security announced Tuesday.
Traditionally, people in Beijing dial "110" for police, "119" for fire departments, and "122" for transportation authorities. These three emergency numbers will be integrated into the "110" number in the second half of 2006. ...
