Postman Greg Redick knows that no matter what the law says, you'd better be alert and walk with your head up and your eyes open when stepping into a crosswalk in downtown Eugene.
For 32 years, Redick has traversed city streets with his mail cart, dodging cars driven by people who seem unaware that in most instances at crosswalks, pedestrians legally hold the right of way over cars.
"Let me put it this way: If I wasn't paying attention all of the time, I could get run over a half-dozen times every day," Redick said.
