Early Tuesday, Nurul Hoque watched television news reports showing 2 million Muslims gathered in Mecca, in Saudi Arabia, to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the holiest day in the Islamic calendar.
"It is the international brotherhood. It shows that we are all human, all the same," Hoque said after more than 2,000 Muslims gathered for communal prayers at the Oncenter Convention Center, in Syracuse.
Hoque, who is from Bangladesh, is eager to make his own pilgrimage to Mecca, the birthplace of Islam's founder, the prophet Muhammad. The pilgrimage, or Hajj, is one of the five pillars of Islam, and all Muslims who are ...
