Jan. 12--The growth of Santa Barbara County's economy this year will get most of its fuel from the northern region, especially Santa Maria.
In recent years, the North County has led the way for building homes, adding commercial development and in turn creating the majority of new jobs.
And in 2006, the North County again will drive the county's economic growth, according to the California Economic Forecast.
The Goleta-based economic group presented its forecast for the North County on Wednesday at Allan Hancock College. More than 300 people, most of them real estate professionals, attended the event.
