HOW TO READ THIS ARTICLE
If this article is your introduction to SGML (Standard General Markup Language), please read straight through once, then return to puzzle over concepts and examples that were not clear on first reading. Experience in learning and teaching SGML indicates to me that most people need to learn several things at once to understand anything at all. Therefore, go for the full exposure from start to finish and then reread as necessary.
I also have found that the concept of document structure (which is fundamental to everything about SGML) takes some getting used to, some living with, especially for people who have no programming background. ...
