Jan. 13--The Twin Lakes Reservoir & Canal Co. is seeking 20,000 acre-feet of storage space in the Arkansas River Basin from the Bureau of Reclamation.
The request is for firm storage space, which would take precedence over temporary storage programs operated by Reclamation. It would also give Twin Lakes partners new storage, presumably through administrative decisions without court or congressional action. Colorado Springs owns more than half of the nearly 50,000 shares in Twin Lakes, meaning it could get 10,000 acre-feet of storage. An acre-foot is 325,851 gallons.
