Delivered to Germany's Hapag Lloyd in March by Hyundai Heavy Industries, Colombo Express is the first of eight 8,606 TEU containerships whose wider beam offers better stability when loading and offloading. The Hyundai design offers superior propulsion efficiency at various drafts related to different loading schemes. Up to 8,606 containers can be carried: 4,719 TEU on deck and 3,887 TEU in the nine holds. Service speed is 25.2 knots with 20% sea margin.
