From dollars to dinars or yen to yuan, every country has its own currency. Companies do too. Whether its denomination is bits or blobs, information is the currency that drives the customer service-oriented activities that define competition today. And with the client/server infrastructure many IS organizations are now building, everybody gets a key to the vault.
None of us is naive enough to think that handing out those keys will be easy. There are too many technological and cultural hurdles to overcome. But the process can be fun and the payoff big, if the right system of rewards is in place.
