Kwamia Rawls, 33, a Ph.D. student and mother of two from West Orange, NJ, who now lives near Basel, Switzerland, shares her secrets for keeping her family--and herself-happy while living far from home.
What do you miss most about the U.S.?
Choice. I can only find moisturizing conditioner in the ethnic section of Basel. I can't shop on Sundays because markets are closed. I had to go to seven different stores to buy black beans--I finally found them at a specialty market over the border in Germany. I've realized that our choices in the U.S. reflect our population's diversity.
How do you stay connected to home?
