I think it would be interesting if some people wrote in about communications in the countryside.

We used to live in the Snake River breaks and we had no phone or electricity. During the summer, mail came three times a week to a shack seven miles away. We usually picked it up once a week or so. During the winter it was delivered once a week, by boat, to a box on the Snake River, five miles from our place.

One winter my mother-in-law, who lived in town, became very ill. My husband went to stay with her. He was gone several months and we got snowed out from each other.
