Less than a year after it began making its own cheese again, Shullsburg Creamery Inc. faces possible closure.
The maker of American-style cheeses, located in the far southwestern corner of the state in Lafayette County, filed for bankruptcy late last month under Chapter 128, the Wisconsin law that, in part, enables a lender to take possession of assets and liquidate them quickly.
The cheese making plant ceased operation last fall and the company laid off four workers. Other aspects of the business continue to operate employing 81 people now.
