Wireless Internet service, which can turn a whole city into the equivalent of a giant Wi-Fi hot spot, could put Bloomington-based NextNet Wireless at the front of the next wave of technology.
By transmitting high-speed Internet service from broadcast towers to receivers in consumers' homes, wireless Internet systems bypass the telephone and cable TV companies that have long dominated the business. Minneapolis has taken bids for such a network, and residents of Chaska already have one.
