New keyhole techniques can make the procedure faster and safer, and leave less of a scar, but relatively few surgeons know how to use them. Here, Robin Richards, 23, an insurance claims technician from Enfield, Middlesex, tells ANGELA BROOKS about his keyhole operation and his surgeon explains it.
THE PATIENT
LAST August, I woke up at 4am in acute pain - it felt like very bad trapped wind just to the right of my tummy button. I took some stomach settlers and went back to bed expecting to feel fine in the morning.
