Wes Montgomery's warm smile, self-effacing demeanor, and awkward-looking right-hand thumb technique might have said "don't take me too seriously," but his music told another story. He was aggressive but rhythmically subtle, bluesy, sophisticated, and technically astounding, especially in terms of his deft, lush octaves and commanding chordal passages.
