On cold, dreary, snowy days, there's no better time to rediscover the joys of comfort food - those dishes fondly remembered from childhood, such as macaroni and cheese, fried chicken, meatloaf, stews and roasts. Or as my mom used to say, "stick-to-your-ribs" meals.
If you don't have all day to prepare a favorite dish, try using a slow cooker to make almost any style of meal, from low-carb to vegetarian to kosher to family-style.
Slow cookers are particularly good for turning large, cheaper cuts of meat into tender dishes. The recipes below showcase two classic beef preparations - pot roast and barbecued beef brisket.
