Jan. 19--La SALLE, Mich. - Once upon a time, otters reigned in this region, their sleek, furry bodies moving through the waters with the grace of aquatic dancers. North American river otters used to live throughout the continent, and at least two area waterways bear the name of Otter Creek - one in La Salle Township and one just east of the Maumee River in Ohio. Although no one has spotted an otter in either one in a couple of centuries, some folks would like to see the species reintroduced in Michigan.
