Jan. 19--Retired Air Force Col. Olin L. Wilson, who commanded Tyndall Air Force Base during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 and later became a prominent Bay County businessman, died on Jan. 8 in Longwood at age 91.
A native of Bells, Tenn., Wilson was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and was a member of its Army ROTC program beginning in 1936. He was attending its law school when he accepted a commission as a second lieutenant in 1942.
Transferring to the U.S. Army Air Corps, Wilson became a bombardier and served in North Africa and the Mediterranean from 1942 to 1945. He flew 30 combat missions in a variety of ...
