People have been predicting the death of the vocal recital for at least 30 years, and yet when the baritone Thomas Hampson sings a recital, as he did for the Schubert Club Tuesday night at the Ordway Center, the form seems not just alive and well but vital and interesting.
Partly, it's the sheer beauty and resonance of Hampson's voice, which he has learned to employ with such subtlety and musicianship, along with, of course, his good looks and natural charisma.
