The International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) have created an initiative to fight counterfeit medications, according to a Sept 26, 2005, news release from the ICN and the IFPMA. The centerpiece of this initiative is the ICN's handbook "Counterfeits kill: Nurses target counterfeit medicines."
Counterfeit medications are a growing problem because more of them are finding their way to patients and few of them actually contain what they purport to contain. In developing countries, the proportion of counterfeit medications on the market may be as high as 50%. A survey conducted by the ...
