Ceratozamia mexicana is considered to be a species in danger of extinction in its native habitats in Central America. It has been possible to obtain somatic embryos of this species from megagametophyte and zygotic embryos (Chavez et al., 1992a) and from leaves of maturephase plants (Chavez et al., 1992b).
